'libjingle' Jingled through out whole day in my head.....

Santa will feel pity for me, that is for sure. On a day when jingling of bells can be heard from every where, 'libjingle' came as a menace to all the worldly pleasure and enjoyment that I could have done on this beautiful day. It was a rough journey and still I am not successful in my quest.

Many of you might be wondering what is this that completely ruined my day. Now, I don't think I need to give you a introduction of GTalk. So, libjingle is a library that powers GTalk's VOIP feature. For the last few days, I was in search of a Jabber client which has a support for Voice Chat in Linux so that I could talk to my friends while I am running Linux. There was no problem with the text chatting part. GAIM does a very good job for this.

Around mid last year, Google launched GTalk. It became a hit within no time. It uses jabber protocol for text chatting so finding a client to support Jabber was not a problem in Linux. But it released its library for voice chatting i.e libjingle under GPL at around december last year. Then Projects like gaim-vv came up but till today they have not released a stable version.

So I searched a lot in the internet to find out that there is a Jabber client called 'Jabbin' which has libjingle integrated into it. Thus it could connect to any Gtalk client and successfully communicate over VOIP Protocol. I thought that may be finally I have found what I wanted. There site has got pre-packaged binary for Fedora Core 5 ( jabbin-2.0-0beta.0blag.fc5.i386.rpm ). I downloaded that file and tried installing it.
It has two dependencies :
*) libexpat.so.0.1
*) qcm

I installed them using : yum install libexpat.so.0.1 qcm

After installing them I installed the Jabbin RPM.

rpm -Uvh jabbin-2.0-0beta.0blag.fc5.i386.rpm

Got installed successfully. I configured the Gmail Account using the tips given in their website. It gets connected to Gmail, shows all my online buddies and the text chatting works flawlessly. But when I try to place a call it gets connected but not sound can be sent and neither I can here any sound from the other end. Moreover, sometimes it gives segmentation fault and Jabbin stops. Googled for this problem but couldn't find out any proper reason for that. May be I wasted 6 hours of my precious time or may be not because I learnt many thing.

But till now the story was about what I did today. But what about yesterday???? It was worse than this. yesterday went off installing Jabbin from sources. i tried to build from source but I dont know what happened. Every time I tried to run the configuration script it gave a error that it cannot find xscreensaver extension and then stops. I was unable to build it from source. I worked yesterday from 8PM to 4AM at night to put it into right track but all my efforts went into vain.

The error that took away my sleep :

xxxxxxxx$ ./configure
Configuring Jabbin ...
Verifying Qt 3.x Multithreaded (MT) build environment ... ok
Checking for Qt >= 3.1 ... yes
Checking for the XScreenSaver extension ... no

Error: need the XScreenSaver extension!

Anyway, I have not given up. I will try again and lets hope to listen to a friend's voice using jabbin very soon. And if anybody tries to install it in a Fedora desktop, always try the prepackaged RPM, do not try to build it from source.

Till now I can hear the jingling of the libjingle. And it will only stop when I will be able to make it work.

Bye 4 Now. Keep Rocking!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'TAARE ZAMEEN PAR'....What a movie.....

Mr Perfect has again shown to the whole world that not only he is a good actor but can also do wonders behind the screen. He has again proved himself after 'RDB'. His latest, as a actor and his directorial debut is such a film which everybody should see.

Today, I watched the film at 89cinemas. Actually thought of watching 'Kailashe kelenkari' but because I didn't get tickets for the same, I decided to watch the movie.

At first, I was a little reluctant because I heard that it is a children movie. But now after watching it I would suggest everybody to watch it.

'Awesome' is what I will say. Mr. Amir khan has again showed his class. And the little boy, called Isant Avasthi in the film, did a fantastic job. And ofcourse the great music by the Trio, Shankar Ehsaan Loy was simply superb.

A perfect film by Mr. Khan after Rang De Basanti. Simply Superb...

I would give a straight 4.5 /5 to this film. Actually hits the heart too hard. A must see for those who love so called 'different' films.

Please share your views regarding the film with me. Bye. Waiting for your comment on the film.

Microsoft and the LAMP Story

Recently, in this months Linux For U Magazine, I read a interesting story about Microsoft.

It says that during a event organised by Microsoft in India, the lamp lighting ceremony was not done which is a normal tradition in India. Now the question is, why did Microsoft refrain herself from lighting a lamp. May be because of the abbreviation 'LAMP' (which stands for LINUX APACHE MYSQL PHP/PERL) has something to do with the open source world. Microsoft however denied this with a reason not so interesting.

We can only laugh at this hilarious act. It only depicts Microsoft's attitude towards the open source world.

New Avtar from Sandeep Ray's Stable.

I don't know how many of you must be knowing Sandeep Ray. To keep it short, his introduction goes like this....He is the son of the great Satyajit Ray and a renowned film director.

Today, a new avtar is coming out from his stable. A film on his father's one of the greatest work ' Kailashe kelenkari(1974)' is releasing today. hope it will be a great hit like his previous film 'Bombaier Bombete'. All the bengalies out there must be eager to find out everything about the movie.

I will watch it very soon.

THIS IS HOW MY PRESENT GNOME DESKTOP LOOK.......CHECK IT OUT

I was always fascinated by the look of a MAC Desktop. It was something which every person bitten by the bug called 'computer', would love to have in their Intel Platform computer.

Few days back I was just googling arou
nd in my office, when I suddenly stumbled upon this interesting post in How-to-forge website.(Here)

Another interesting thing that I found out was that this project is a gift from a Indian to the open source world. His name is
Anirudh Acharya.
This was primarily tested on a ubuntu machine. But I Installed it in my Fedora 8 Desktop with some configuration. Check out whether you can distinguish between 'Linux+Gnome+Mac4Lin' and a normal Machintosh desktop.

Now tell me What is this???

Nice Icon Set and Fonts

Nautilus --- running with the Theme loaded.

This is Compiz-Fusion with Mac4Lin.

This is how any window closes in my desktop

Switching between workspace has never been so easy. Thanks to compiz-fusion.

'Vista' is like a child in front of this.

This is what even Vista doesn't have.

'Vista' is so proud of itself because of this effect.....Good Joke.
Mamu, earning money is very hard. Some pays nearly 15K and another 20K for hardware to get this.
I pay nothing. I just show a "Thumbs Up!!!!" to the Linux World.

"LONG LIVE THE TUX GOD"

Finally, Mozilla Firefox running with the Safari browsers theme.

'WOW!!!' is what I can think off.

What do u think?????

Finally, I want to thank Anirudh for such a wonderful creation and pray to God for this project to do well in FOSS 2008.

ALL IT NEEDS IS LITTLE TIME ( WHICH MOST OF US HAVE ) AND LITTLE PATIENCE TO GET USED TO LINUX. SO MY FRIEND IT IS A REQUEST TO ALL OF YOU TO JUST TRY OUT THIS ATLEAST ONCE TO BREAK SOMEBODY'S MONOPOLY. THIS IS A DEMOCRATIC WORLD, WHY SHOULD WE ALL HAVE SOMEBODY TO RULE OVER US. WHAT DO U SAY GUYS???( O O AND OFCOURSE GALS. THIS WORLD IS OPEN FOR THEM TOO...HE HE HE....JUST JOKING...NO HARD FEELINGS PLZ)

LIFE ROCKS WITH FEDORA 8!!!!!!

November 8th has been marked as a remarkable day in the life cycle of the open source World. The latest version of FEDORA rolled out from Red Hat's stable . This is version 8 of the OS. In this post I will be describing how I configured this OS on my Laptop.

To start with, the hardware specs of my laptop is as follows :

Model : Lenovo N 3000 ( 0768H2Q)

*> Intel Core duo ( T2250, 1.73 GHz)
*> Intel 950 GMA Chipset
*> 1GB DDR2 RAM
*> 80GB internal + 80GB external Harddrive
*> Intel Wifi
*> Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
*> Integrated 1.3 MP Camera
*> Integrated Authentec fingerprint reader
*> And all other regular stuffs

To start with, the first thing I did was that i read the setup guide at How-to-forge website. The instruction over there are very good but I think the guide for Fedora 7 on the same Website was far better, so I also had a look on the Fedora 7 installation step.

There is also a excellent guide from mjmwired.net website on the Installation.

The installation was pretty simple and I was quite impressed with speed of Installation process.

Important Features of Fedora 8 are :

*> Kernel 2.6.23
*> Fedora 2.0.0.8
*> open office 2.3.0

More can be found out at distrowatch website.

I installed all the softwares for Multimedia.
Installed Compiz-fusion. But there is a work around to make 'ccsm' to work. This work around is given here. A guide to install compiz-fusion is given here.

Lastly, when all these things were done, I searched a lot in the net to actually make my fingerprint reader work. I found out a very new project called fprint. It worked for me and will work for all those who has a authentec chip.

Now after setting up all this, I am using Fedora for last two weeks and is very impressed with it. FEDORA Guys have done a great job. One thing that I loved was the new sound server PulseAudio and the new tool to install all codecs called codecBuddy.

Hope, this post will help all my friends in setting up a perfect desktop with FEDORA 8 and help in spreading this opensource movement to a larger extent.

Please feel free to ask any question you have got. I will try to give a reply.

Bye...Keep Rocking!!!!!!!

Back again after a long hibernation........

Well as the title suggests, I am back into business of blogging. I still remember the day when I created this blog page. I started off with a lot of zeal but all went well for a while and then the business collapsed. It's not my fault. Actually, all these happened because of a great virtue that I posses, the virtue of being Lazy.

My friends will be a lot surprised. I know that very well. Well, a lot has changed since my last post and this one. I got transformed from a fully unemployed student to a energetic IT guy, searching for the common goal "Happiness".

By this time, you must be thinking that what happened to the business and why suddenly the business came alive. But I wont give answer of the first question. Leave it....forget it. Let me tell u the reason behind this post( 2nd question ).

Actually, today I got a new broadband connection and so I have a proper place and time to think about being a little creative and still be a technophobic. What can be a better way express other than my old business? So, I am here writing this post with a determination that I will carry on with this job with strong determination.

So, Friends wish me luck and help me to flourish in this wonderful business.

The Open World Lies Ahead

Humans have fought many battle in the past. Some group won and some group lost. From the prehistoric ages we have been fighting over our various needs and rights. When ever somebody tried to take away our basic rights for our existence we have never looked back but fought bravely until we have either won it of we have lost our life.

In today's context, we are in a position where earth has become a global village due to very high level of technological advancement, but still there is a fierce battle that is being fought silently between two groups of people and the worst part of it is that many of us are completely unaware of the seriousness of the war and the consequences.

This war ( I would like to call it a war ) is between the proprietary softwares and the open source softwares. Two groups of seriously talented people are fighting the war since the inception of the modern day computers.

I would gladly accept that I am with the people fighting for the open source world to exist. A man's creation can only be made more beautiful if others can help him to do the job. Moreover, the basic idea of open source world is "Live and let others live". This brings a sense friendliness to this world. Isn't it, that our birth right is to be free? So if this people is helping us to achieve our rights and help the community by taking the help of the community then what is wrong in supporting this community driven movement.

So now if somebody asks me how to help this movement then I would say that it needs just a little time to learn the open source softwares. Just try out linux once. Take help from other to use it and learn it. This is a world where your exploration will never end and the word 'Piracy' will never haunt you. Try it once and you will feel the difference.I am sure anybody will love it once they use it for a little time. After u start using it you will definitely think off delivering something to the community and that day this movement will become the winner.

Lastly, I don't think this war is going to end very soon. It will run endlessly unless 'we' the common man change our mind and come out of the hands of the proprietary softwares.

My Journey starts off from here..........

Today is a very important day for me.... After a lot of efforts from my friends, which failed, I finally started blogging. Much of the credit goes to my two friend Sayantan and Abhishek who helped me a lot in understanding the concept of blogging. May be they will be a little surprised when they see this as they have almost left all their hope and thought that all their efforts went into vein.

Anyway, as everybody knows that I am not that kind of a creative guy(as far as Literature is concerned ) so I will be primarily focusing on technology which interests me a lot. As "computer " is the most passionate word that I know in this world so most of my blog will be related to computers.

As I always thought of sharing my experiences with the world so i found this as a very good medium to pen down all my thoughts and crappy ideas that comes out from the deepest corner of my brain.

Hope every body enjoys it and find it informative............

Thus from here my journey start off.......
